Throughout the spring 2025 semester, UMN will pilot FeedbackFruits tools designed to enhance student engagement:

  • Interactive Document encourages active engagement with reading materials and their peers through social annotation, similar to tools like Hypothesis and Perusall.
  • Interactive Video and Interactive Audio allow students to collaboratively annotate video and audio files.

System staff and instructors are invited to participate in the pilot by using these tools with students or exploring their features independently.

Experience Accessibility: Watch and Listen to a Screen Reader in Action

Screen Reader Navigations by Headings

Watch and listen to the video from Khaled Musa of ATSS for a demonstration of how formatting a document can be meaningful.  In the film you can witness the use of audio cues from his screen reading software which allows him to quickly find the information he needs.

“For users of assistive technology, headings function like a headline in a newspaper. When scanning headlines visually, you can jump from one headline to another. You don’t have to read every single word to get to the next story. A screen reader helps user do the same thing, but only if headings are marked.”
