Phase Out of VHS Players in Classrooms

Standard cycle of refreshing general purpose classroom technology means VHS players are going away.

ITSS has begun the phase out of VHS players on campus. Manufacturing stopped several years ago, and as we do our regular cycle of replacing classroom equipment, the ability to connect the remaining players we have is no longer possible.

VHS players are no longer installed in large lecture halls. Lecture halls affected are:

  • Bohannon Hall (BohH) 90
  • Chemistry (Chem) 150
  • Chem 200
  • Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) 118
  • Life Science (LSci) 175
  • LSci 185
  • Marshall W. Alworth Hall (MWAH) 195
  • Montague Hall (MonH) 70
  • MonH 80

We do have a VHS projector cart and another one to be built, that will allow users to show VHS tapes. The cart wil be available for check out.

We have also begun removing VHS players from all other general purpose classrooms as we refresh the equipment in the classrooms. We anticipate total phase out of VHS players installed in classrooms to be complete by the end of summer 2018.
