Using a Laptop at the Instructor Station

1. Connect the cables and turn on your laptop

Laptop computer connection cables are located on top of the instructor station.

Attach the computer cable to the VGA or HDMI port on your computer. Note: Some computers do not automatically turn on their external video port when a secondary display such as a projector is connected. Some Macs require special cables. Refer to your computer manual for details. Also if you are connecting an older Macintosh that does not have a 15-pin connector, you must use a Mac adapter.

If you want to use the sound from your laptop in your presentation and are connected with VGA, connect the VGA sound cable into your headphone jack. If you are connected with HDMI, no sound cable is required.

Press the "POWER" button on your laptop.

2. Turn on the instructor's main control system

Two sets of controls are located on top of the instructor's station. 1) A table control system panel controls the display of student laptops from individual tables to the classroom's main projection screen. 2) A main control system panel displays the instructor's laptop to the classroom's main projection screen and provides volume and screen blanking capabilities.

The instructor's main control system panel has eight buttons. Press the "ON" button to turn on the main control system. The "ON" button is the top left button.

3. Select the desired input on the instructor's control panel to project

To project the image on your laptop to the main room display, select one of the following options.

 VGA Button Press the "VGA" button to project from a laptop that uses a VGA connector. The "VGA" button is the second button from the top on the right side of the instructor control panel.

 HDMI Button Press the "HDMI" button to project from a laptop that uses a HDMI connector. The "HDMI" button is the fourth button from the top on the right side of the instructor control panel.

 Blank Screen Button Press the "BLANK SCREEN" button to blank the screen. The "BLANK SCREEN" button is the bottom button on the right side.

Adjust the sound, if needed

 Volume Up Button Press the "VOLUME UP" button to increase the sound. The "Volume UP" button is the second button from the top on the left side.

 Volume Down Button Press the "VOLUME DOWN" button to decrease the sound. The "Volume DOWN" button is the third button from the top on the left side

 MUTE Button Press the "MUTE" button to cut the sound. The "MUTE" button is the bottom button on the left side,

5. Disconnect the cables, when you are finished

  • Unplug the sound cable from your laptop (if you used this option).
  • Disconnect the computer cable(s) from your laptop.

6. Turn off the instructor's control system

 Off Button Press the "OFF" button to turn OFF the system for your instructor. The "OFF" button is the top right button.
