Using a Laptop at a Table

1. Connect the cables and turn on your laptop

Laptop computer connection cables are located at each table.

Attach the computer cable to the VGA or HDMI port on your computer. Note: Some computers do not automatically turn on their external video port when a secondary display such as a projector is connected. Some Macs require special cables. Refer to your computer manual for details. Also if you are connecting an older Macintosh that does not have a 15-pin connector, you must use a Mac adapter.

If you want to use the sound from your laptop in your presentation and are connected with VGA, connect the VGA sound cable into your headphone jack. If you are connected with HDMI, no sound cable is required.

Press the "POWER" button on your laptop.

2. Turn on the table's control system

Each round table in an active learning classroom divides into three sections. Each table section has a table control system panel comprised of eight buttons.

Press the "ON" button to turn on the system for your table. The "ON" button is the top left button.

3. Select the desired input on the table's control panel to project to the table's monitor

To project to your table's flat screen monitor, select one of the following options.

 VGA ButtonPress the "VGA" button to project from a laptop that uses a VGA connector. The "VGA" button is the second button from the top on the right side of the table control panel.

 HDMI ButtonPress the "HDMI" button to project from a laptop that uses a HDMI connector. The "HDMI" button is the third button from the top on the right side of the table control panel.

 INST VGA ButtonPress the "INST VGA" button to project the instructor's monitor that uses a VGA connector. The "INST VGA" button is the second button from the top on the left side of the table control panel.

 HDMI ButtonPress the "INST HDMI" button to project the instructor's monitor that uses a HDMI connector. The "INST HDMI" button is the third button from the top on the left side.

4. Adjust the sound, if needed

 Volume Up Button Press the "VOLUME UP" button to increase the sound. The "Volume UP" button is the bottom button on the left side, the fourth one from the top.

 Volume Down Button Press the "VOLUME DOWN" button to decrease the sound. The "Volume DOWN" button is the bottom button on the right side, the fourth one from the top.

5. Disconnect the cables, when you are finished

  • Unplug the sound cable from your laptop (if you used this option).
  • Disconnect the computer cable(s) from your laptop.

6. Turn off the table's control system

 Off Button Press the "OFF" button to turn OFF the system for your table. The "OFF" button is the top right button.
