Canvas Pilot Moves Into Second Phase

Some faculty and students are trying out a new Learning Management System this year. A recommendation is due in April.

During the spring semester of 2016, a new (to UMN) Learning Management System (LMS) went into an evaluation phase as part of UMN's membership in Unizin. This academic year, the Canvas Pilot has moved from an evaluation phase into a full comparison to UMN's existing LMS, Moodle.

Timeline

The current timeline is as follows:

  • September-December: Faculty and students use Canvas with ongoing support; evaluations conducted (approximately 16 Duluth faculty participating in this phase)
  • October: Call for Spring 2017 participants (additional details forthcoming)
  • February 2017: Final report delivered to project sponsors
  • April 2017: Learning Management System recommendation finalized

The group that will make the final recommendation is comprised of representatives from each campus. This group came out of a recommendation from last academic year's Academic Technology formal Community of Practice (AT fCoP).
