ITSS has been visiting UMD campus buildings with our Duo and Donut cart to encourage UMD community members to opt-in to Duo 2 factor protection for direct deposit and W-2s. If we didn't get the opportunity to assist you in person, you can still opt-in (the process takes less than 10 minutes) on your own.
What is Duo?
Duo is a two-step authentication process that provides an extra layer of online security.
It does not require you to remember another password. Rather, it adds a second layer of security by asking for 2 things to verify your identity. They are:
- Something you know (your UMD password), and
- Something you have (your mobile phone, tablet, or landline phone)
Why Use Duo?
If you use Duo, a hacker with your stolen University password cannot gain access to your Direct Deposit or W-2 information.
How Do I Sign Up?
For the self-service instructions, please visit Opt-in to Duo Two-Factor Protection for Direct Deposit and W-2.
If you already use Duo for other University systems such as the Data Warehouse or Box, you still will need to opt-in to protect your W2s and direct deposit information.
