Protect Your Direct Deposit and W-2 With Duo

Password + Device = Better Security
April 28, 2017

Signing up costs nothing and takes less than 10 minutes.

ITSS has been visiting UMD campus buildings with our Duo and Donut cart to encourage UMD community members to opt-in to Duo 2 factor protection for direct deposit and W-2s. If we didn't get the opportunity to assist you in person, you can still opt-in (the process takes less than 10 minutes) on your own.

What is Duo?

Duo is a two-step authentication process that provides an extra layer of online security.

It does not require you to remember another password. Rather, it adds a second layer of security by asking for 2 things to verify your identity. They are:

  1. Something you know (your UMD password), and
  2. Something you have (your mobile phone, tablet, or landline phone)

Why Use Duo?

If you use Duo, a hacker with your stolen University password cannot gain access to your Direct Deposit or W-2 information.

How Do I Sign Up?

For the self-service instructions, please visit Opt-in to Duo Two-Factor Protection for Direct Deposit and W-2.

If you already use Duo for other University systems such as the Data Warehouse or Box, you still will need to opt-in to protect your W2s and direct deposit information.
