Preparing for Duo

Starting November 1, 2018, the password reset process will be tied to Duo enrollment.

When faculty, staff, student, person-of-interest or sponsored account owners change their password, they will also be required to enroll in Duo at the UMN Sign-in page (if they have not done so already).

Securer and Easier Authentication with Passphrases

As we prepare to adopt Duo Security on November 1, the University will begin requiring a less-complex set of password rules that enable more secure and easier to remember passphrases. Learn how to create a secure, memorable passphrase.

Bypass Codes Allow "Off the Grid" Access

Did you know that even if you have no access to WiFi or cellular service, you can still use Duo Security?

You can use the Duo Mobile app to generate mobile bypass codes while you're traveling internationally, in Airplane Mode, in a basement laboratory, or on a mountaintop.

If you don't use the mobile app, be prepared with self-service Duo bypass codes. You can use bypass codes whenever you need to sign in where you have no WiFi or cell service. The codes are good for 120 days, so even if you are planning on spending a lot of time "off the grid," you will be able to access online systems, data, and assets.
