Server Registration, Inventory, and Deregistration

Procedure: University of Minnesota Duluth

ITSS will provide server inventory for all servers at UMD using OCS Inventory NG (Open Computer and Software Inventory).

Administrators of UMD campus servers should install the OCS agent on all servers under their control. The agent enables us to track the servers automatically.  Please note this agent is a “read-only” agent for inventory and is not for making changes to servers.   It does look for and store server settings in a central database.

Server Registration

Please email the ITSS systems team (systeam@d.umn.edu) with the following information when setting up new servers.

  • Unit (department or research unit)
  • DNS Name
  • IP Address
  • Virtual or Physical
  • Primary Service/Function
  • Contact (normally the system administrator)
  • OS and its version
  • Location, if Physical
