From Summer 2017 through Summer 2019, the University of Minnesota system will be transitioning all course sites from Moodle to our new centrally supported Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. Development of transition plans with individual units and campuses are ongoing. Refer back to this site for regular updates and the latest transition information.
Moodle to Canvas Course Migration Assistance
UMN’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) Academic Technology Support Services (ATSS) is accepting requests to migrate Moodle content and activities to Canvas for courses to be taught during Summer and Fall 2019.
Summer and Fall 2019 Course Deadlines
- Submit course migration request by Friday, April 12
- Last day Summer and Fall 2019 migrated courses will be completed and returned by ATSS is Friday, May 10
Approved course migration requests will be processed on a rolling basis and migrated course content will be returned within six (6) weeks from the date of each course migration request.
Canvas Basics Online Webinars (Online webinars offered in May)
New to Canvas? Starting to think about moving from Moodle to Canvas? If so, plan to attend an online 60 minute, “Canvas Basics” workshop that will include a review of the Canvas interface, tools and features, course design options, and an introduction to moving content from Moodle to Canvas. Additional time is allotted for Q&A.
Teach with Canvas (May 13 or 14 in Kirby Plaza 173)
In this 3.5-hours, hands-on workshop, participants explore principles and practices for creating a student-centered and sustainable course site with Canvas. Participants will have the opportunity to work with their own course material or with sample course sites during activities in this hands-on workshop.
Discover Canvas Workshop Series (Online workshops offered in May)
Each course in the workshop series takes a deep dive into one Canvas topic. The workshops take place over 4-days. Participants should expect to commit at least one hour per day over 4 days (a minimum of 4 hours) completing online activities within a practice Canvas course site in addition to attending an optional 1-hour online session in WebEx. The WebEx session is recorded and made available.
