Compliance Sheriff's Retirement
Since 2012 the University of Minnesota has licensed Compliance Sheriff software for system wide use. It provided semi-automated testing and reports for a variety of standards including the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG), level AA. Compliance Sheriff is being retired at the end of November 2016.
Functional Accessibility Evaluator Now Available
The replacement for everyone at the University of Minnesota is Functional Accessibility Evaluator (FAE). It is made available from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Like Compliance Sheriff, it has a rule set based on WCAG standards. It can provide a detailed report of web accessibility issues across multiple web pages.
Access FAE
To access the Functional Accessibility Evaluator:
- go to https://fae.illinois.edu
- when accessing the website for the first time, select University of Minnesota from the drop down list
- log in with your UMN Internet ID and password
- set up a scan on the "Run FAE" page
Once the scan is run, the report is presented in the "Archived Reports" page.
Use AInspector to Address Issues
It is best to use FAE in combination with the AInspector Sidebar Firefox extension to address issues that FAE has identified. AInspector provides details about each issue and where it appears in the code.
