We do not provide repair services for personal devices for retirees, alumni or the general public.

Services Offered

Our full-service shop provides:

Warranty Repairs and Coverage

ITSS staff can provide or facilitate warranty repair service for both Apple and HP computers, as well as repairs covered by an extended CPS warranty purchased through the UMD Stores.

  • Parts are covered by supported vendors during the warranty period
  • Labor coverage is dependent on vendor contracts
  • A copy of the original invoice, receipt or warranty is required

For warranty repairs not covered by Apple, HP or CPS warranties, ITSS will facilitate the repair with the vendor for a nominal handling fee. Customers may choose to coordinate directly with the vendor to avoid this fee.

How to Check in a Device

A valid UCard or University ID is required to check in a device for repair. All devices must be checked in for service. This ensures technicians can safely diagnose and secure the device and meet vendor requirements.

ITSS cannot diagnose issues or order parts unless the device is checked in for service.

We offer loaner HP Chromebooks at no charge for students, staff or faculty who have a computer in for repair. Please ask at the TechCenter counter when you bring your device in.

Secure University-owned Device Setup

All University-owned devices are required by University policy to be centrally managed for auditing and compliance purposes. Verification of enrollment in central management, and initial setup assistance, are provided at no charge.

Departments are responsible for purchasing hardware, accessories and software not provided by the University.

Only supported devices can be properly set up and managed. Learn more through the Hardware Purchasing Program.

On-Site Delivery and Setup

University-owned devices are eligible for on-site delivery after being serviced or set up at the ITSS TechCenter, at no charge.

Visit the On-Site Delivery and Setup Service page for details.

Secure Device Disposal

Devices must be disposed of using a secure and documented process as required by University policy.

ITSS provides secure data removal, device disposal and e-waste recycling services at the ITSS Helpdesk at no charge.

Learn more on the Secure Device Disposal page.

Data Backup

To reduce the risk of data loss, ITSS routinely creates a backup of customer data before beginning repair work. Data is stored securely for up to 30 days and then deleted.

Service Timeline and Repair Guarantee

ITSS makes every effort to diagnose your machine and contact you within 3 business days of check-in, excluding University holidays and semester breaks.

Hardware repairs include a 90-day labor guarantee and are covered by the manufacturer's warranty period for parts. Software repairs, such as spyware or malware removal, are not guaranteed.
