1:Button Studios are fully automated high-definition video recording spaces with professional studio lighting and sound equipment. They are set up to record high-quality video projects without the user needing any knowledge of lights, microphones, and cameras. These studios can make academic video production easy.

Instructions

1. Reserve a studio online

UMD has two 1:Button Studios.

Reserve One Button Studio at Kirby Plaza 174
The 1:Button Studio in Kirby Plaza 174 is equipped with lighting, microphone, pan-tilt-zoom camera, and recording iPad interface.  You can pick up the key next door in the CoLab, located in the TechCenter in Kirby Plaza 173.

Reserve One Button Learning Glass Studio at KAML 142
The 1:Button Learning Glass has a clear glass screen that allows users to write, draw, and create in neon colors. Pick up the key at the Library Service Desk on the first floor of the Library.

2. Record Your Video

Once in the room, users will enter their email address into the iPad control system, and then click on the screen to record. Students, faculty, and staff can record themselves responding to a topic or question, interviewing one another, or giving a presentation.

3. Receive Your Recordings

Once you are done with your recording, click on the iPad screen to complete the video.  An automated email is created and sent. with links to video content in four different formats:

  1. Camera only
  2. Laptop or other device only
  3. Side-by-side camera and device
  4. Device with small picture-in-picture of camera

Instructions for activating the Audio Description (AD):

  1. Press play on the video.
  2. Press the AD icon to turn the description on and off.
  3. Press the AD sliders icon to equalize the volume.
  4. Press the AD volume icon to mute AD.
  5. Use the AD volume slider to change the volume of the description independently from the volume of the YouTube video.
  6. Use the YouTube volume slider to change the volume of the background music or use the YouTube mute button to mute it.
