Learn on your own schedule while participating in an online learning community through Canvas.
ITSS eClasses are delivered through Canvas. These online courses do not have scheduled meeting times, but each class has a start date and an end date.
Most eClasses run for one or two weeks. This flexible format allows you to complete coursework when it works best for your schedule while still interacting with instructors and other participants.
What to Expect in an eClass
Each eClass typically includes:
- A lesson or lecture
- Required reading
- Hands-on activities or assignments
- Review questions
- Discussion forums for questions and class conversations
Course materials are designed to support and reinforce what you learn through readings, activities, and discussions.
Recommended Learning Path
To get the most from the course, we recommend completing materials in this order:
- Review the lesson or lecture.
- Complete the assigned reading.
- Finish any hands-on activities.
- Answer the review questions.
Participate in Discussions
Discussion forums are an important part of every eClass. They provide opportunities to ask questions, share ideas, and learn from others.
If you have a question about the course, post it in the discussion forum whenever possible. Your question and the response may help other participants who have the same question.
Ask Questions and Keep Learning
Learning something new can take time. If a concept does not make sense right away, keep going and ask questions when you need help.
Questions are a valuable part of the learning process. They help clarify concepts, encourage discussion, and often improve understanding for everyone in the class.
- Ask questions when something is unclear.
- Share your knowledge when you can help others.
- View mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve.
Stay Engaged Throughout the Course
Check Canvas several times each week to stay current with assignments, discussions, and announcements. Instructors review discussions regularly and will respond as quickly as possible, although response times may be longer on weekends.
If you fall behind or need additional support, contact the instructor as soon as possible.
Learn From Your Classmates
After completing your own work, take time to review contributions from other participants. Seeing different approaches and perspectives can strengthen your understanding of the course material.
Some eClasses include peer feedback activities. When sharing feedback, be respectful, constructive, and focused on the course learning goals.
Assignment Feedback and Review
Instructors review assignments and provide feedback throughout the course.
- You will receive confirmation when your assignment has been reviewed.
- If your work meets the requirements, feedback may be brief.
- If revisions are needed, the instructor will explain what to improve.
- When resubmitting an assignment, reply directly to the feedback message so progress can be tracked more easily.
Depending on the number of submissions, there may be a delay between posting an assignment and receiving feedback, especially on weekends. Thank you for your patience.
