Generative AI has been a constant topic of conversation in academia. We are being overwhelmed by information as we explore, celebrate, adapt, invest, learn, and reconsider what learning means in this new age. It is quite challenging to center and focus on how to proceed and modify your teaching, researching, and communication skills.
To start a conversation and exploration of learning with and without Generative Ai, ITSS Academic Technology and Course design is making Analog Inspiration cards available for exploration. Each deck contains 48 themed cards that can start conversations about shared values, new activities, enhanced outcomes, and ways of learning.
Exploring the Analog Inspiration cards can be a great first step, or it can add additional clarity and options to your course design and teaching.
Example Cards
Card Name: Variety
The Variety Card offers a suggested activity:
Paste one of your course learning outcomes in AI and ask for three engaging but entirely different in-class activities that could help students achieve the outcome in question. Pick your favorite, or, better yet, ask students one they’d like to try.
Card Name: Discernment
Our second example is a card entitled Discernment:
"What am I trying to Avoid by using AI right now?" Ask yourself this question, and encourage students to do the same. Is it.... confusion? perfectionism? boredom? Do I really need to use AI right now? Encourage students to jot down these observations. Even a 30 second pause can lead to more intentional engagement with AI.
