How to Access Lab Software

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

BYOD means you can use almost any device, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones to access the software you need for class. Basic Access and Access Plus both work with BYOD using the methods below. Find out more about access levels on our website.

Using either the Citrix Workspace App or the "Light" web-based version, Apps4U is available to students who have Access Plus and an Internet connection. Access Plus is granted to students based on enrollment in courses that require specific software.

You may see "AppsToGo" referenced in documentation that we link to - this is the Twin Cities software delivery tool. Linked instructions will still work; students and instructors at Duluth should look for Apps4U on their desktop to launch specialized software.

How to Access Lab Software

You can connect in two ways, either via Citrix Workspace Light, with no need to download or install software, or the Citrix Workspace App.

1.a. Citrix Workspace Light

By choosing Citrix Workspace Light, you can access Access Plus and Apps4U directly with your web browser. You do not have to install any additional software.

To use this version, follow the instructions on the University of Minnesota's IT webpage for Signing in Using the Citrix Light Version.

1.b. Citrix Workspace App

On occasion, the full Citrix Workspace application makes sense. Instructions on how to Install the Citrix Workspace app are provided by the University of Minnesota's IT department.

2. Access Plus Desktop

If you do not see Access Plus as an option when you open Citrix, go to the Desktops tab. If it is not there and you believe you should have access, please send the following information to [email protected]:

  • Your name and University email address
  • The course information (for example: ENGR 1222 section 1 with Instructor Name) for the course that requires software in Access Plus
  • The software you are using

3. Apps4U

Apps4U is the tool within Access Plus that delivers Windows lab software. Mac software is not available with Apps4U. Once you launch Access Plus, you will need to open Apps4U to access the software.
