Managed Data Storage and Secure Backup services provide students, faculty, and staff with a variety of options for storing files (data, web, email, research) on University servers, including both personal file storage and shared storage areas for collaboration.
Service Offerings - UMD ITSS
Active Directory File Shares (N: and P: drives)
ITSS provides file storage to individuals and to departments through Active Directory. Files are accessible from both Windows computers on AD/SCCM and from Mac devices that are managed with JAMF via Enterprise Connect.
Storage:
N: (Network Share) drives: Department folders are set up for each unit on campus. Shared folder access is managed by ITSS system administrators.
P: (Personal) drives: Personal folders are available for all faculty and staff but are created for individual users on request only. Folders are initiated with 10Gb; additional storage may be provided upon request.
Backups: AD file shares are backed up nightly and stored for 90 days.
Restores: Users on Windows AD computers can self-restore files using the Shadow Copy process. Managed file restores are available for other use cases on request.
MyFiles / MyWeb (Samba storage)
Samba storage is legacy storage limited to users who need access to unix file storage. It is not a primary service and support is limited. Contact the ITSS Help Desk for additional information.
Storage: MyFiles is home directory storage. MyWeb is personal ~/web site storage.
Backups: Samba files are backed up nightly and stored for 90 days.
Restores: Managed file restores are available upon request.
