This page includes some basic Pharos printing system troubleshooting steps.
If an issue arises that is not listed, or if these steps do not resolve the issue please contact the ITSS TechCenter Help Desk ([email protected], 218-726-8847, or Kirby Plaza 165) for further assistance.
Operation Could Not Be Completed Error
Error: You receive a notice that the operation could not be completed. ‘The username and password could not be authenticated against any servers’.
Reason: You likely attempted to log in with your full email address instead of your user ID.
Solution: Use just the user ID and try logging in again.
Example:
Email: [email protected]
User ID: student117
Unsupported Card Type
Error: You may see a message "Unsupported card type:" at the Pharos “MyPrintCenter” login screen.
Reason: This generally indicates that you do not have funds in your account.
Solution: Please confirm you have enough funds in your account to print by checking in the Get mobile app.
Can’t Print Due to Page Size
Error: You receive an error message explaining that you can’t print due to print size.
Reason: It is because you have attempted to change the format of your print job to an unsupported page size. Pharos and our printers are designed to print standard document size (8.5 in x 11 in) and does not allow for other sizes.
Solution: Please utilize the UMD Print Shop for any unique sized print jobs.
Print Job Appears Zoomed In
Error: The printed job appears to be zoomed in on just one part of the document.
Reason: It is most likely that an unsupported page size was selected, or the file needs to be resized to the standard supported size (8.5 in x 11 in). Resizing is most commonly associated with PDFs.
Solution: You can always select the “Preview” button on the MyPrintCenter page and confirm how the file will print before spending funds to do so.
Can’t Find Printer in Pharos
Error: The required printer isn't available in Pharos as an option.
Reason: This may happen if you are not at a Pharos printer. All Pharos printers are listed in MyPrintCenter.
Solution: Check for the sticker on the printer you wish to use and search for the name in the printer search field at the bottom right of the MyPrintCenter page. If the printer no longer appears to have a sticker, please let ITSS staff know ([email protected]).
User Must Select Print Job Error or Can’t Change Color or Settings
Error: You see a "User must select print job" error, or you are receiving an error indicating you can't change the color printing option or settings on your print job.
Reason: You have not selected the print job you wish to print within MyPrintCenter.
Solution: Select the checkbox for the document (on the left hand side of the screen) and try again.
File Upload Window Not Available
Error: You select the “Upload” button to upload your file to the MyPrintCenter page, but a window will not pop up to upload a file.
Reason: Usually this happens because the Operating System (OS) or Web Browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) are not up-to-date.
Solution: Update the computer Operating System or Browser and try again. Please contact the ITSS TechCenter for further assistance needed with updates.
Funds Not Showing Up in Account
Error: You have added funds to your account, but the funds are not available for printing.
Reason: There is a short waiting period for those funds to become available.
Solution: The typical wait time is 5 minutes before you are able to access the funds in the Campus Cash account that the money goes into for printing purposes. If it has been more than five minutes, please contact the Cashier’s Office.
Server Management Notice
Error: You see a Server Management notice or error when trying to print.
Reason: The system is down due to error or for maintenance.
Solution: Please let the Help Desk ([email protected] or 218-726-8847) know that there appears to be an issue with the Pharos system, and exactly what the error message says. You may try using the Pharos system again later, or use the UMD Print Shop for immediate assistance.
Requesting a Refund
If you have encountered an error that has caused you to be charged for a print job that didn’t go through for any given reason, you are entitled to a refund. For example, if the printer does not print your job but charges you, or if the print job has streaking on the pages.
Email [email protected] with details including your email address if not sending from your University account, the title of the print job, the printer name and location, what happened, and how much was deducted from your account.
