As of January 2025, Wolfram Mathematica successfully transitioned to Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication for University of Minnesota (UMN) staff and students. UMN users now sign in using their university credentials. Instructions for using the new SSO system are as follows:
SSO Directions: Sign in to Mathematica
Go to Wolfram.
- Enter your University of Minnesota email address and select or click Continue.
If you want to install the desktop version of Mathematica, choose Mathematica Desktop. If you want to access Mathematica via a browser (no installation required), choose Mathematica Online.
When prompted to activate through the standard University of Minnesota log-in screen you see when logging in to other systems (SSO), sign in with your University of Minnesota Internet ID, password, and Duo two-factor authentication.
If you previously had a Wolfram account, enter the password for that account when prompted in order to link that account with your University account. Once your Wolfram account is linked to your University login ID you will no longer receive this prompt.
Accept the terms and conditions as they have already been reviewed by University representatives.
- Online access or downloading:
- If you are accessing Mathematica Online, you'll be directed to Wolfram Cloud, where you will have access.
- If you need to install the desktop version, follow the directions to download and install Mathematica.
Once Mathematica is installed, launch it. You will then be prompted to choose the license you want to activate. You can choose Mathematica or Wolfram|Alpha Notebook Edition (a version of Mathematica with a "Wolfram|Alpha-like" interface).
Select your desired license and select or click "Activate." Your product will then be activated. Then following confirmation message will appear.
Your Wolfram product's startup will screen appear.
