VPN: Chromebook and Android Cisco Secure Client

Install Cisco Secure Client for ChromeOS and Android Devices

Follow these steps to install the Cisco Secure Client on your ChromeOS or Android device:

  1. Install the free Cisco Secure Client app from the Google Play store. To do this, open the Google Play app, and search for "Cisco Secure Client" using the search function. Or your device go directly to Cisco Secure Client-AnyConnect in Google Play.
  2. Install the app on your device, then open it.
  3. Tap, "Connections", then tap "Add New VPN Connection"
  4. Add a description, such as "UMD VPN"
  5. For the Server Address, enter "tc-vpn-1.vpn.umn.edu/umd", then tap "Done".
  6. Go back to the previous screen to connect.

Connect to the University of Minnesota VPN Using Cisco Secure Client

Follow these instructions to connect to VPN:

  1. Open the installed Cisco Secure Client app.
  2. If not already displayed, tap the Menu button in the upper left.
  3. Check that the "UMD VPN" connection is selected below.
  4. Tap to toggle AnyConnectVPN to "On".
  5. Enter your University of Minnesota Internet ID and password.
  6. By default you will get a DUO push notification on your primary DUO device. After you approve, the connection will be established. For more information on different DUO options, check the Connect to VPN section of ITSS VPN Page.
