UMD Canvas Template Instructions 

Why use a Canvas template?  

We’ve designed the UMD Canvas Template to save instructors time, improve site accessibility, and provide students with a familiar consistent course site interface.

View the UMD Canvas Template.  Note that the template includes:

  • A welcoming and informative homepage
  • A sample Weekly Module
  • A Weekly Overview page
  • A streamlined navigation menu
  • Accessible headings on every text page (just update the text, not the style)
  • Student and instructor resource modules

Where can I find the UMD Canvas Template?

The UMD Canvas template has been published to the Canvas Commons. If you are familiar with the Canvas environment and know how to import existing content to a new Canvas site, you can use Option 1 Do It Yourself.

Option 1 Do It Yourself

You can find the UMD Canvas Template in the Canvas Commons and import into your course site: 

  1. Sign-in to Canvas.umn.edu.
  2. Select the Commons icon on the far left maroon navigation menu. The Canvas Commons dashboard will open for you.
  3. In the Search bar, type “UMD Canvas Template”.
  4. Select the UMD Canvas Template.
  5. Select the blue Import/Download button on the right side of the window.
  6. Select the course(s) you would like to import the template to if needed, (you can import the template to multiple sites).
  7. Select the Import into Course button at the bottom of the list.
     

If you are new to Canvas, you can choose Option 2 and request for UMD Canvas template to be applied to your course site. 

Option 2 Submit a request

  1. Email [email protected] and ask for the UMD Canvas Template to be added to your course. Be sure to include the following web address or URL with your request: https://canvas.umn.edu/courses/552099.
