This neat feature is hidden in plain sight under Settings: Show recent announcements on Course home page. With the box checked, you are able to display the most recent course announcements at the top of your home page. This is a great way to remind students about upcoming assignments, class locations, and other information.

Bonus! Don’t forget that you can set your Canvas homepage to a specific page or to Modules.
