
Early Career
Chuck began his journey in telecommunications as a student order writer for Telephone Services on the Twin Cities campus in 1982. By 1985, he was hired full-time by the University's new Network and Telephone Services department, where he coordinated telephone moves, adds, and changes.
Transition to UMD
In August 1986, Chuck accepted a full-time staff position at UMD. Over the next 40 years, he worked with 5 different phone systems and became a manager in Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) in 2012.
Expertise and Contributions
Chuck's expertise extended beyond telecommunications. He became an expert in networking and data centers, playing a key role in both campus and system-level projects. Additionally, he developed skills in finance, automating budget tracking and taking over accounting responsibilities when our accountant left.
Leadership and Mentorship
Chuck was a trusted voice in campus and system governance. He cared deeply about his staff and the people he served, consistently delivering projects and services under budget and ahead of schedule. His mentorship helped grow the careers of many staff members and colleagues.
