Getting Started with Digital Accessibility

Create materials that everyone can use.

  • Who: You, because you are a person who uses a computer.
  • What: Learn how to ensure that your emails, documents, websites, presentations, course materials, etc. are accessible to everyone you want to reach.
  • When: Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 10:00 am
  • Where: From the comfort of wherever you happen to be, via Zoom.
  • Why: Simple changes in how you create digital content can have a positive impact on the ability of others to successfully access it.

Do It Yourself Training

The Digital Accessibility Badging Program is a series of online, self-paced courses that can get you started creating accessible content. It is open to all University of Minnesota staff, faculty, and students.

This program will teach you real skills that are easy to learn and easy to implement. You will save yourself work in the long run while improving your materials for everyone.

Completing the subsequent courses in the series will earn you badges, highlighting the skills you demonstrated in the final project for each training. You can take the courses on your own, anytime you like, and we encourage you to do so!

What's in the Digital Badge?

A digital badge is an image that carries metadata, validating the skills you demonstrated in a training. Digital badges are shared online through social media and other professional development platforms, such as LinkedIn. You can earn a digital badge that showcases your skills for each training course you complete after Digital Accessibility: Foundations.

Join Our UMD Cohort

If you would appreciate more context and would like to connect with others in the UMD community, several Accessibility Ambassadors are hosting our first ever Accessibility Badging Cohort on November 12.

Together we will talk about what accessibility is and why it is important. We will hear from UMN employees directly affected by digital accessibility issues. Our group will work together to complete the initial Digital Accessibility: Foundations course and collaborate on future badging courses.

In this digital world, you have the opportunity to make sure that no one is unintentionally left out. Be part of the solution. Connect with us on November 12 via Zoom, or join the Digital Accessibility Badging Program online at your own pace anytime.
