Do the Duo

Learn when you need to enroll in DUO, what devices are supported, and how ITSS will support you.

During the next year, Duo Security (two-factor authentication) will be required at the University of Minnesota Sign-In page for students, faculty and staff. This includes Google apps (GMail, Calendar, etc.), MyU, and other University applications.

When Will You Need to Enroll?

Beginning November 2018, students, faculty, and staff will be required to enroll in Duo Security at the time of their annual UMN password reset. Each person will be notified in advance by email, two weeks before their password expires.

What Devices Support Duo Security?

A smartphone or tablet used with the Duo Mobile app is the fastest and easiest way to use Duo. Backup options include another smartphone or a tablet, landline, U2F token, or (in limited cases) hardware token.

How Will ITSS Support Duo?

ITSS staff will be available to assist students, faculty and staff as they transition to the new process:

  • Assist in setting up your primary and backup Duo device
  • Provide and provision tokens at the Help Desk if needed
  • Provide emergency bypass codes through the Help Desk
