Changes to Gmail Interface

Starting on February 22, 2022, Google is introducing a new user interface for Gmail.

The new interface integrates Gmail with other applications like Google Chat and Meet to minimize the need for switching between tabs or windows.

Timeline

Users can opt-in to use the new interface until it becomes the default for everyone in Summer 2022. Opt-in through a pop-up notification in Gmail when the new interface becomes available.

  • February 22, 2022: Users can opt-in to the new experience to familiarize themselves with the changes, and they can toggle between the new interface and classic Gmail.
  • April 2022: All users will begin to see the new interface by default but will be able to revert back to classic Gmail.
  • Summer 2022: The new interface will become the default experience for Gmail with no option to revert back to classic Gmail.
