Vol 2.7: Through the Learning Glass, Check your Color Contrast, Alternative Approaches to Grading

Through the Learning Glass

Repeated Photo: Learning glass board demo.

Each week the MediaHub Staff check in on the 1:Button Studios in KAML 142 for an operational check. We clean the space and board, check equipment connections, and then create a quick video to send. We save the not-at-all entertaining video edits in a Kaltura Folder for posterity’s sake.

With the Learning Glass, it's pretty easy to draw equations, diagrams, flow charts, and timelines, then narrate your work with the high quality microphones.  After completion you can edit the file with ScreenPal software or use Kaltura to clip video ends.

Reserve the 1:button studio at z.umn.edu/umd1button  Contact [email protected] for a tutorial or demonstration!

Alternative Approaches to Grading

Let's Talk Teaching: UMD Instructors Approaches to Grading

“Genuine education isn’t simply this points game”

“Think about your students as people who are learning things for purposes. If they are not learning for a grade, why else are they learning?

Quotes from Susan Blum, Podcast in Higher Education, and author of Why Rating Students Undermines Learning and What to Do Instead?.

Taking inspiration from the above quote, CEI and ITSS hosted a discussion on Alternative Approaches to Grading featuring three UMD faculty and their assessment practices. Each panelist offered ample documentation and resources to share.
