Students attending class in virtual reality (VR) is depicted as either an utopian ideal of interactivity or a dystopian disconnection between teacher and student. When we remove the Hollywood glitz and science fiction and put the VR headsets on students at UMD, what really happens?
Join Edward Downs, Professor of Communication and the ITSS Academic Technology and Course Design team to discuss what teaching a course in VR at UMD looks like. Find out what students, instructors, and technologists learned from this recent pilot project and how teaching in a VR space requires its own specialized techno-gogy.
