Windows 11 on the Way

Find out about the timing, testing, what's new, and where to get more information on the upgrade.

Timing

Windows 11 is the newest iteration of the Microsoft Windows operating system and was released early October. The University will likely begin the transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 on University devices spring semester. If you use a personal computer for University business, you may wish to wait a bit before upgrading.

Testing

While Microsoft has claimed 99%+ application compatibility with Windows 10, it is currently being tested for use on University devices and networks by IT staff. When testing is complete, all computers set up at the TechCenter will have Windows 11 installed. We'll also begin upgrading eligible managed University computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

What's New?

Most functionality remains similar between Windows 10 and Windows 11. A few changes include a redesigned user interface, with a new logon screen, start menu, task bar, and snap layouts. You may also see a smoother transition from monitor to laptop, as Windows will now remember how your apps were positioned when you unplug from a monitor.
