Make Bypass Codes Part of Your Duo Backup Plan

Bypass codes let you sign in even if you have no WiFi or cell service.

The end of the semester is quickly approaching, and with it the summer months when many people are off campus. If you will be off campus for an extended period and want to maintain access to your secure University resources, be sure you have a backup plan for your Duo authentication. This could be another smartphone or a tablet, a landline, a Security Key (e.g., U2F token) or self-service bypass codes.

Bypass codes are good for 120 days, so even if you are planning on spending a lot of time "off the grid," you will be able to access online systems, data, and assets. If you find your primary Duo authentication isn't working and you don't have a pre-generated bypass code, you can visit the ITSS TechCenter Help Desk (KPlz 165) with a photo ID to get one. You can also call the Twin Cities 1-HELP line ( 612-301-4357 ) and use video for verification.

Have a safe and secure summer!
