Google Team Drive

After a successful pilot, Google Team Drive will be released to everyone in the University of Minnesota community in May.

What is Google Team Drive?

Google Team Drive is a shared space where teams can easily store, search, and access their files anywhere, from any device.

Benefits

Eliminates the Issue of Individual Owners

Files in Team Drive belong to the team instead of an individual. Even if members leave, the files stay exactly where they are so your team can continue to share information and get work done.

Sync and Backup to Your Local Computer

A new feature, Google File Stream, will be released at the same time. File Stream is the tool to use for file sync and backup of Team Drives to your local computer.

Not Replacing My Drive

Team Drive is an additional, optional feature of Drive and does not replace My Drive. My Drive is still the preferred option for your personal files or for files that need to be shared publicly to anyone with the link.
