Canvas Update
Moodle will continue to operate as usual for the next 2 years. However, all Moodle courses will need to be transitioned by Fall 2019. Visit the Canvas Transition website for timeline, course migration and building resources and on-going updates.
Get Started
We encourage faculty and instructional staff to explore Canvas at their convenience. Here's how to get started:
- Login to Canvas. If you are teaching a course in Spring 2018 you will see your unpublished course sites. Learn more about unpublished course sites.
- Request a development site. You can develop your course and easily import it into your upcoming semester's unpublished course site when you are ready to teach.
Canvas Transition Update
At the midway point of the semester, University of Minnesota continues to prepare for Canvas to be in full production Spring 2018. The latest data shows 662 courses (6.9%) using Canvas this fall, with 19,332 students (non-unique) enrolled.
As of October 25, the UMD campus has 42 Spring 2018 courses sites in transition from Moodle to Canvas.
Course Auto-Provisioning Schedule
Auto-provisioning of Spring 2018 unpublished course sites was completed on October 6. After two successful semesters of auto-provisioning courses, and at the recommendation of the LMS Transition Governance Committee, the dates below are planned for course provisioning in future semesters:
- Fall: April 16
- Spring: August 1
- Summer (including May term): January 3
Note that beginning January 2, 2018, and as determined Learning Management System (LMS) governance, all faculty and instructors will be able to publish their own Canvas sites.
Course Visibility Matrix
For anyone building or teaching in a Canvas site, we have assembled an overview of how Canvas courses are displayed on the Canvas Dashboard and/or All Courses listings, as well as information on what students and/or faculty can see in published (and unpublished) Canvas sites for each term.
