Student Computing Update

Student technology has been upgraded and improved for better usability and efficiency.

The ITSS Student Computing Team strives to provide technology best suited to student needs and also be good stewards of student fees.

The following are our most recent accomplishments:

  • Apps4U has been upgraded (from Application Jukebox to AppsAnywhere).
  • Montague 209 has all new Macs, and the library is soon to have all new Macs as well. Courses utilizing these Macs will see increased hardware power.
  • The library has been rearranged with Macs on third floor and Windows thin clients are on the fourth floor. This change was planned out cooperatively with the library and ITSS, and the change makes it more apparent "what is where" for our customers and aligned more clearly with the library's mission.
  • We've gotten new monitors so that all of our thin clients have the same look. Since all of the monitors are the same, the Windows image will look the same everywhere now rather than looking different on the various monitors we had in the past.
  • CinaH 22 (Psych departmental partnership lab) now has wireless thin clients. This eliminates the need for extra expense of wiring and adds ease in room design.
  • Heller Hall 108 (Geology) and Engineering 208 (Mechanical & Industrial Engineering), both of which are departmental partnership labs, have converted to thin clients. The departments will no longer have to do expensive upgrades of their PCs.
